I currently serve as Assistant Professor of Education at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. I developed and coordinate Lenoir-Rhyne’s graduate program in online teaching and instructional design. Previously, I held positions as Instructional Technology Facilitator, Staff Development Coordinator, and Instructional Coach for Newton-Conover City Schools and classroom teacher for Hickory Public Schools and Marietta City Schools. I recently completed the Ph.D. in Teacher Education program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a cognate in instructional technology. I was honored to be recently recognized by the National School Board Association as one of the "20 to Watch" for 2012-13 and am a recipient of the ISTE Making IT Happen award, presented by NCTIES in 2013. I'm a regular SimpleK12 webinar leader and have presented for several several regional, state, and international conferences. I co-founded #edteach, a bi-weekly Twitter chat for pre-service teachers and #NCed, a bi-weekly Twitter chat for North Carolina educators. My research and professional learning focus on preparation and support for online instructors, online and blended learning communities for educators, blended learning in K-12, personal learning networks for pre-service teachers, and professional learning for technology integration. I am married with two beautiful children.
